'Superman: Legacy': New title, release date, star cast and more

Writer-director and DC studio chief James Gunn has announced that the title of his upcoming film 'Superman: Legacy' has been changed. The word 'legacy' has been dropped and now it will be called 'Superman'. He took to Instagram on Thursday, February 29, to announce the change. He wrote in the Instagram post, "When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Making our way to you July 2025."

Gunn also wrote in the same post, "Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday."

James Gunn: I completely relate to Superman

Talking to 'Hollywood Reporter', he said that he completely relates to Superman because Superman is everything he is. He also said that he is somebody who is an outsider who feels like an alien, but also the ultimate insider, because he is a Superman.

Release Date

Warner Bros. has scheduled the film to release on July 11, 2025. It is the only film slated for release on this date.
Gareth Edwards's 'Jurassic World 4' will arrive one week before and Paramount Pictures' 'The Naked Gun' will hit the screen one week after 'Superman'. Marvel's 'The Fantastic Four' will be released on July 25, 2025.

It will be the first solo Superman film in more than ten years after 'Man of Steel', starring Henry Cavill. Richard Donner directed the first 'Superman' film that was released in 1978. It starred Christopher Reeve.

According to 'Daily Planet', David Corenswet will portray Clark Kent or Superman, while Rachel Brosnahan will play Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult the villain Lex Luthor in 'Superman'. Other members of the cast include Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Skyler Gisondo, María Gabriela de Faría, and Sara Sampaio.
