‘Superman’: Henry Cavill never had contract to return to DC Extended Universe. Know what happened

According to sources quoted by media reports, Henry Cavill does not have a contract to reprise his role as Superman. He reportedly agreed verbally with DC Films for future Superman movies. Since the company's reorganization and renaming as DC Studios, Cavill has had conversations with co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran, the men in-charge of establishing the DC Universe. Superman, portrayed by Henry, will not appear in the show.

Cavill confirmed the news on social media and said, "Since I won't be resurrecting as Superman, that makes sense. The studio asked me to break the news in October, before they were recruited, so it isn't ideal timing, but such is life. The changing of the guard is a phenomenon that occurs. That is respected by me. It is up to James and Peter to create a universe."




Cavill's depiction of Superman is one of the numerous alterations made as Gunn and Safran seem to reboot the DCEU and set the film series apart from its past chapters. Cavill's cameo in The Flash, set for release in 2023, will also be canceled despite having already been filmed. DC Studios opted against moving through with director Patty Jenkins's vision for Wonder Woman 3. Therefore, the role played by Gal Gadot in the film will be scrapped. DC Studios has plans for the Man of Steel.
