In an unexpected revelation, American singer and songwriter Sufjan Stevens has talked about his personal life and friendship for the first time in his public life. Dedicating his new record 'Javelin' to his late 'beloved' partner Evan Richardson, who passed away in April, Stevens talked about the themes of heartbreak and suffering.

In an Instagram post, the singer wrote, "This album is dedicated to the light of my life, my beloved partner and best friend Evans Richardson."

Sharing a picture of Richardson flashing a smile, Sufjan Stevens further wrote, "He was an absolute gem of a person, full of life, love, laughter, curiosity, integrity, and joy. He was one of those rare and beautiful ones you find only once in a lifetime-precious, impeccable, and absolutely exceptional in every way."

His new album is focused on heartbreak, melancholy and grief. In 'Javelin' the despairingly titled single 'Will Anybody Ever Love Me?' he talks about grief. He begs Jesus for deliverance from romantic despair in the song 'Everything That Rises'. The centerpiece 'Shit Talk' depicts a relationship that hasn’t quite ended, but has run its course. The opener song 'Goodbye Evergreen' suddenly explodes into something epic and episodic. 'A Running Start' takes longer to transform, but by the end, it resembles something akin to the sunshine pop of the 1960s.

Earlier this year, Stevens talked about his Guillain-Barre diagnosis. In this neurological disorder, the body’s immune system attacks a portion of the peripheral nervous system. The singer said in a lengthy post on Tumblr, that he has been out of the promotional cycle for 'Javelin' because he has been in the hospital undergoing physical therapy to regain control over his body.

On Thursday, October 5, the singer wrote on Tumblr that he would “continue the work at home and in outpatient therapy.” In another Tumblr post, he thanked his fans for following his hospital blog.
