Student walkout planned at Jones College Prep over school’s response to controversial Halloween costume

On social media, a video was posted as a piece of evidence about the ongoing controversy at Jones College Prep High School. The video showed a student goose-stepping, wearing a German military uniform for Halloween. Many found the student’s costume to be antisemitic, a discriminatory act towards the Jew community.

The principal of the Jones College Prep High School is Joseph Powers. And as per the copy of the letter shared by the principal on social media, he quotes that many of his students and staff members attended the school on Halloween Day to participate in the costume contest.

Joseph POwers continues, during the AC lab, to keep the mood light, the school arranged a costume contest, and amidst this, one of the members wore a German military uniform. The staff and students expressed their concerns there.



The Jones College Prep High School’s principal then adds that this act was regretful and harmful for a few members, including the staff and students. He remarked that the school does not appreciate harmful expressions and gestures. And this situation is not at all with the intent of the Halloween costume but to hurt the sentiments.

However, students accused the principal of downplaying this incident, and the Instagram post shows the Jones students protesting the school’s actions. Chicago Public Schools officials launched an investigation to remove the principal. Many such incidents and allegations were sent to the CPS against Jones College's principal. And asking for further investigations.
