In an interview with the media outlet, Sting said that the building blocks of music belong to human beings. He continued, “That’s going to be a battle we all have to fight in the next couple of years: Defending our human capital against AI.” The musician further noted that the technological innovation “doesn’t impress” him at all and he levelled AI with CGI in movies.
Sting revealed that he gets immediately “bored” when he sees a computer-generated image while adding that he feels the same way about artificial intelligence making music. However, he did say that AI can be used for dance music but not for songs that express emotions. He said, “I don;r think I will be moved by it”.
Remarkably, Sting’s remarks came in the same week that Spotify launched its artificial intelligence DJ across UK and Ireland. The feature is based on the users listening habits and suggests fresh songs using AI.
