Barbee's attorney fought against the execution, saying it would be a violation of religious freedom. On Tuesday, the lawyer said the execution would cause Barbee insufferable pain because he's incapable of moving his arms and shoulder. But it was rejected by the US Supreme court.
It was assured that Barbee's arms should remain bent during the execution. The officials later struggled to find the vein, and it took almost 40 minutes to find the vein. Stephen Barbee was announced dead at 7:35 pm local time.
