The alleged incident occurred one day after the Patriots’ “Monday Night Football” victory over the New York Giants on December 1. In that game, Diggs recorded three catches for 26 yards in the team’s 33–15 win. Details surrounding the alleged altercation have not been made public, as per a report by TMZ.
According to a report by ESPN, on Tuesday at 11 a.m. ET, the Dedham (Massachusetts) District Court held a motion hearing. Before Diggs' arraignment on January 23, a judge is reportedly considering whether to impound the court documents, according to WCVB-TV.

What led to the charges against Stefon Diggs?
According to reports, Diggs was formally charged in connection with the December 2 incident. Frank O’Laughlin of Boston25News.com reported that the receiver is facing “felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery.” While the nature of the alleged altercation remains unclear, Diggs’s legal team appeared in court on Tuesday and is attempting to keep the police report sealed, as per a report by NBC Sports.
Keeping the report sealed may limit what becomes publicly known, but the situation is still expected to draw attention from the NFL as the league reviews the matter.

What happens next for Diggs and the NFL?
Diggs is scheduled to appear in court for his arraignment on January 23. That date falls just two days before the AFC Championship Game, should the Patriots advance that far in the postseason.
While the details of the case remain limited, the NFL is expected to seek further information. Depending on the outcome and severity of the allegations, Diggs could potentially be placed on the Commissioner Exempt List.
