Kentucky State Police confirm multiple victims, suspect dead in Lexington shooting

A state trooper and multiple other individuals were injured in a shooting incident in Lexington, Kentucky, that concluded at Richmond Road Baptist Church on Sunday, July 13, according to authorities. The suspect was killed during the episode, though their identity has not yet been released.

Kentucky State Police spokeswoman Sherry H. Bray confirmed the details in a statement, noting the trooper involved was receiving medical attention and that emergency responders were on-site treating additional victims. “At this time, we can confirm that the trooper is receiving medical attention,” Bray said. “There were multiple victims at the church, and emergency responders were treating people at the scene.”

The series of events began when the shooter allegedly shot the trooper and fled, ultimately ending up at the Richmond Road Baptist Church. The precise motive or circumstances leading up to the shootings remain unclear, and law enforcement agencies are continuing their investigation.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear acknowledged the situation in a statement on Sunday, confirming his awareness of “a series of incidents in Lexington around one suspect, including a trooper-involved shooting and an additional shooting at Richmond Road Baptist Church with multiple injuries.”

Authorities have not clarified if the church shooting was connected to reports of another incident at Blue Grass Airport in Lexington on Sunday. An airport spokeswoman confirmed that “an incident” had occurred on a roadway within airport property but did not provide additional details.
