More than 3,500 workers in 150 Starbucks stores will go on strike next week, demanding permission to put up Pride Month decorations to support the LGBTQ+ community and recognition of their union.

The Starbucks Workers Union has accused the management of not allowing the workers to put up Pride Month decorations or asking them to remove those decorations. Earlier, ‘Bud Light’ and ‘Target’ received backlash from consumers for supporting the LGBTQ+ community.

Rejecting the accusation, Starbucks has said that it has not issued any guidelines to stores regarding the Pride Month decorations. It has also accused the union of spreading baseless rumors. The company has also said that there is no change in the policy and the store leaders have been encouraged to celebrate diversity.

It has also asked the consumers to come to the stores to see the Pride Month decorations and buy merchandise, made in collaboration with the LGBTQ+ community. The company has also issued an internal memo to the store managers and expressed concerns over the accusations.

Starbucks is a Seattle-based multinational company that runs coffeehouses across the world. It runs more than 33,000 coffeehouses in 80 countries.

LGBTQ+ community celebrates June as Pride Month across the world. Parades are held in many countries in this month. Pride Month began in 1969 after gay liberation protest marches that triggered violence and riots in Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in Lower Manhattan, New York City. President Joe Biden recognized Pride Month in 2021 and signed the required bill, passed by the U.S. Congress.
