SSI recipients to receive March 2025 payment on February 28: Here’s why

Certain recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) may be surprised to find their monthly benefit payments arriving earlier than expected.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) payment schedule typically ensures that benefits are disbursed on their usual payment date. But when this falls on a weekend or public holiday, the payment is made on the preceding business day.

Understanding the SSI payment schedule

According to a USA Today report, SSI payments are usually made on the first of each month, except when this date falls on a weekend or federal holiday. In such cases, the payment is issued on the previous business day.

Since March 1, 2025, falls on a Saturday, SSI beneficiaries will receive their payments on Friday, February 28, 2025.

As a result, no SSI deposit will be made in March 2025, and beneficiaries are advised to plan their finances accordingly.

More payment adjustments in 2025

The USA Today report highlighted additional payment adjustments in 2025. The SSA payment schedule includes several months where SSI recipients will receive two payments in one month and none in the following month:

· May 2025: Payments will be issued on May 1 (for May) and May 30 (for June), meaning there will be no payment in June.

· August 2025: Payments will be made on August 1 (for August) and August 29 (for September), with no deposit in September.

· December 2025: The payment on December 31, 2025, will cover January 2026, meaning there will be no separate payment in January.

What if a payment is delayed?

Nearly 99 per cent of SSI recipients receive their payments electronically. Therefore, by February 28, 2025, the funds should be deposited.

But if a recipient does not receive their expected payment, the SSA recommends waiting three additional mailing days before contacting them.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a financial benefit provided to those with limited income or resources. It is available to those aged 65 and above, as well as people with qualifying disabilities, including visual impairments.
