More than 975,000 people have liked Spotify's created playlist of Sped Up songs. It includes songs like Ellie Goulding’s Lights and Summertime Sadness by Lana Del Rey along with Steve Lacey’s recent TikTok anthem Bad Habits. But what it is which makes the people like these versions of original classic songs.

Youtube also has such videos of sped-up songs. One such video which features 2000s pop songs like Nelly Furtado’s Say It Right and Jennifer Lopez’s On the Floor garnered 4.9m views. The songs were sped up to match the pace with Gen Z's priority for overcharged beats.

On TikTok, people can be seen dancing to the fast version beats of I Wish by Skee-Lo and Thundercat’s Them Changes at whiplash-inducing BPMs.

Netflix hit series 'Wednesday’ too started the trend where people can recreate Jenny Ortega’s viral choreography.

However, sped-up songs help the old songs to get a new breath of life. They make new listeners know the songs they might have forgotten. Billboard reports these remixes to help the songs to step up on the charts.

making sped-up versions are cost-effective in comparison to a remix by some big DJ. They give higher returns and reach the people.

One Spotify playlist “sped up nightcore”, has around 12 million listeners a month and 2 million listeners a day on average.

Officially the sped-up songs are called Nightcore. They are hit on YouTube, Limewire, and other online music streaming platforms.

Songying Wang known as AxionXa on YouTube told the New York Times that the fun part of Nightcore is that anyone can create it easily.

Hip-hop culture seems to be the root of sped-up versions as singers like Kanye West and DipSet created fast-up versions of R&B hits in the early 2000s.
