New characters will be introduced to the Princess and the Frog realm in Disney's updated version of the iconic Splash Mountain ride. The House of Mouse has unveiled a new concept image of a planned scene from the forthcoming Splash Mountain renovation that will soon be unveiled at Disneyland and Disney World.
The scene, which picks up where the Princess and the Frog's story left off, occurs right after riders have completed the first drop on Splash Mountain's course. Princess Tiana, who was voiced by Anika Noni Rose in the 2009 animated film, is leading visitors through the bayou with the assistance of her friend Louis, the alligator.
As the adventure continues, Zydeco music will fill the air as a group of animals, including a rabbit, an otter, a beaver, a raccoon, and others, play instruments they've found around the bayou. Disney had made plans to revamp two of its Splash Mountain attractions in 2020 in an effort to erase any references to the 1946 film Song of the South, which has long been criticised for promoting racist stereotypes. The attraction at Disney World debuted in 1992 after the 1989 opening of the equivalent at Disneyland.
Disney unveiled a model of the attraction with new external embellishments planned to be added to its structure at the D23 expo. It also included a water tower displaying Tiana's name. The business also hinted at an eye-catching light show that will precede the ride's breath-taking final drop.

There was no guarantee that Disney World was going to be a success 50 years ago. Walt Disney, the pioneering animator and entrepreneur whose name graces the Florida resort, had died in 1966, just a year after announcing plans for "the East Coast Disneyland". His brother Roy Disney took over the reigns but he died almost three months after Disney World opened. Over the course, Disney World added three more theme parks, two dozen additional hotels and grew to have a workforce of 77,000 employees as it helped Orlando become the most visited place in the U.S. before the pandemic.

Only around 10,000 visitors showed up on that first day - which at today's much larger Walt Disney World would represent about 90 minutes' worth of visitors entering. It wouldn't be until Thanksgiving 1971, almost three months later, when Disney executives had an answer about whether their new resort would be a success; that's when cars trying to get into the Magic Kingdom stretched for miles down the interstate.
