'Spice Girls' gets nostalgic, posts debut hit 'Wannabe'. Know in detail

'Spice Girls' posted a 30-second clip of the group’s signature 1996 debut hit 'Wannabe'. It shows the casually dressed quintet going through their choreo paces, laughing and having a blast before the chorus rings out, 'friendship never ends'.

The all-girl band of the 1990s, 'Spice Girls' celebrated their 30th year on Monday. They took to social media platform X, formerly Twitter, to post a compilation of the early days of the band and a never-before-seen audition tape. Getting nostalgic, the band wrote in the post, "Today marks the 30th anniversary of the very first Spice Girls auditions!” They said further, "What started back in 1994 has turned into an amazing journey, way beyond anything we could have ever imagined."

Who were members of the Spice Girls?

Spice Girls consisted of five women- Emma Bunton, Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell Horner, Mel Brown, and Mel Chisholm.

'Wannabe'

According to 'Billboard', the band also posted a 30-second clip of the group’s signature 1996 debut hit 'Wannabe'. It shows the casually dressed quintet going through their choreo paces, laughing and having a blast before the chorus rings out, 'friendship never ends'.

When 'Wannabe' was released in early 1997, it spent four weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100. It is one of the group’s nine U.K. No. 1 singles. It completed one billion Spotify streams in late 2023.

Last performance of 'Spice Girls'

The last time this band performed on stage was at the London Olympics in 2012. They went on a global tour in again in 2018-2019, though Victoria Beckham did not take part as she has not participated in the Girls’ activities for more than a decade. Mel B said in January this year the Girls were planning yet another reunion to mark three decades of empowerment.

The Spice Girls made their live concert debut and released a feature film, 'Spice World' in 1997. They embarked on the Spiceworld Tour in 1998 and about 2.1 million people attended it, making it the highest-grossing concert tour by a female group. However, some differences cropped up and Halliwell left the Spice Girls mid-tour in May 1998. The band came out with a number-one single with 'Goodbye' in 1998 and a successful 1999 concert tour. The band featured their ninth number-one single with "Holler"/"Let Love Lead the Way", and set a record for most UK number-ones by a girl group of all time.
