SpaceX may set record with double launch on Friday as forecast remains in favour

SpaceX is pushing back-to-back launches to a new level this week. On Friday, December 16, the business hopes to break one of the longest-standing records for rocket launches from the Space Coast.

The year's SpaceX launches are organised to launch between 4 PM and 5 PM, less than 35 minutes apart. The company's launch pads, Pad-39A at Kennedy Space Center and Pad 40, which is the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, will serve as the launch sites for the flights.

The record for the shortest time between orbital takeoffs from the Space Coast, which has been standing since November 11, 1966, might be broken on Friday. On the same day, Buzz Aldrin and James Lovell flew onboard the Gemini 12 mission precisely 90 minutes after the vehicle launch. They would later meet up in orbit to rehearse rendezvous and docking.

Despite the company's reputation for being secretive regarding its launch procedures, Sarah Walker, director of Dragon mission management at SpaceX, told reporters last month that they can use various control rooms and personnel while collaborating with their customers to determine the bare minimum between launches.

The fastest turnaround time for the company between launches is currently 15 hours. The previous record dates from December 2021. On December 18 that year, SpaceX launched a Falcon 9 from California's Vandenberg Space Force Base, carrying several Starlink satellites into orbit. The Turksat 5B mission for Turkey was found 15 hours later from Pad 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station by a second Falcon 9.
