Southern California tailback Charles White passes away at 64 from cancer
Charles White won the Heisman Trophy in 1979 ad he died on Wednesday, January 11.

In a statement, John Robinson, White’s former head coach at USC and with the Los Angeles Rams hailed Charles White as the “toughest player” that he ever coached. Paying tribute to the legend, Robinson said that White was “really unusual” in that regard and lauded him as a “great player” to loved the sport. USC head coach added, “He was a really tough guy, and he was an extremely gifted athlete. But the toughness ... wow!”

— USC Trojans (@USC_Athletics) 1673491997000Charles White was a two-time All-American and Los Angeles native. He won the national title in 1978 before acquiring the Heisman trophy in 1979, when he was the captain of USC Trojans. White led the country in yards rushing.
Moreover, Charles White led the Trojans in rushing in each final for three seasons. He also bagged other awards such as Walter Camp, Maxwell and Pop Warner Awards following his senior season.
Moreover, he was named as Rose Bowl’s most valuable player in games after the seasons in 1978 and 1979. Charles White was the third of USC’s record eight Heisman winners and he is still hailed at USC as Tailback U.
Charles White ended his NFL career with 3,075 yards rushing. Following his NFL retirement, he trained USC’s running backs from 1993-97 as he worked under Robinson. White left behind his ex-wife, Judianne White-Basch, their five children along with a granddaughter.
