South Korea’s women planning nationwide protest against gender-based violence

Since the beginning of the pandemic, South Korean feminists have been working to organize the first marches across the country to protest sexual assault and other forms of gender-based violence.

A backlash against the anti-feminist movement sweeping the country has caused a heated debate over men's and women's rights in a country where discussing women's rights is socially taboo, and men say they are facing discrimination. This backlash is causing a heated debate over men's and women's rights.

After a year of hiatus because of the pandemic, feminists are out in force this year since they are free to attend more public events.

The women of Korea's Associations United were among the many social groups that have banded together to press the Korean government to improve women's rights.

Haeil, which means "tsunami" in Korean, is the name of the organization of the feminist that is organizing the protests happening in Seoul and Busan on Sunday.

A governmental ideology that actively works against women

Over the last five years, the feminist movement in South Korea has flourished, giving rise to one of Asia's most influential #MeToo campaigns. The campaign successfully removed several high-profile figures, including the mayor of Busan, South Korea's second-biggest city, who were all accused of sexual misconduct.

Yoon was elected president earlier this year on a platform that appealed to young men who felt they should bear the brunt of Korea's growing economic uncertainties and the shrinking job market.
