The South Carolina State University shooting incident, which was reported on Saturday night (October 4, 2025) a buzz erupted on social media, making claims of people being killed in the incident. Multiple social media posts claimed that two girls were killed and one sustained injuries. However, there is no official confirmation from concerned authorities on the death toll, and no reports of injuries have surfaced at the time of filing of this report.

Hours after the incident, the historically black university issued an alert notice according to which the campus was placed under lockdown. The incident occurred at Hugine Suites, the alert stated.

The shooting incident flooded social media platforms including X with several claims and speculations. “Multiple people state on Facebook 2 girls killed 1 wounded after shooting at hugine suits at South Carolina university but not yet confirmed,” a social media user wrote on X.





“A shooting in fact did happen at South Carolina State University involving a group of females!! At least 2 dead possibly 4 injured from reports of people at the school!!,” wrote another X user.

“Multiple people state on Facebook 2 girls killed 1 wounded after shooting at hugine suits at South Carolina university but not yet confirmed,” wrote a third user.



The Orangeburg institution canceled all Homecoming events scheduled for Sunday (October 5, 2025). In the alert, the university urged all students to return to their dorms after shots were fired at Hugine Suites, officials posted on the school’s website.

“SCSU Alert: The South Carolina State University campus is on lockdown following a shooting. All Homecoming events scheduled for Sunday have been canceled. If you are not a current student, please do not attempt to come to campus,” the alert read.

The State Law Enforcement Division was being asked to investigate. According to the university, students in the Hugine Suites dorm are asked to remain put, and others are requested to stay away and return to their own residence halls.

“Public Safety has asked the State Law Enforcement Division to investigate. Hugine Suites residents who are not in the complex report to SHM. Anyone in Hugine Suites stay put. Students in other residence halls return to your rooms. Off-campus residents, please exit the campus,” the alert on the historically black university read.

South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott said in a statement on X, "My office is closely monitoring the situation at South Carolina State University. Praying for everyone’s safety on campus." The university is located in the city of Orangeburg, in central South Carolina. It has a student population of about 2,900 students.
