Sophie Turner to return as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones sequel? Here's what the actor revealed
Actor Sophie Turner, who played Sansa Stark in HBO’s blockbuster fantasy series Game of Thrones, has indicated she is not entirely ruling out a return to the franchise, following author George R.R. Martin’s recent confirmation that several new projects, including potential sequels, are in development.

Martin recently revealed that HBO currently has “five or six” Game of Thrones projects in various stages of development, a statement that has reignited speculation about future stories set after the events of the original series. While most confirmed spin-offs so far have focused on prequels, the mention of sequels has drawn renewed attention to the surviving characters from the original show.

Turner addresses the possibility of reprising Sansa Stark

Speaking during a promotional interview for her upcoming Amazon Prime Video project Steal, Turner was asked directly whether she would consider returning as Sansa Stark in a sequel series. The actor responded candidly but stopped short of offering a firm commitment.

“Show me the money,” Turner said with a laugh, before adding that while returning could be challenging, it might also be “amazing” under the right circumstances, as per a report by Collider.

Turner’s comments reflect a pragmatic approach rather than an outright refusal, suggesting that any return would depend on creative direction, scale and timing.

Satisfaction with Sansa’s ending

Unlike several of her former co-stars, Turner said she was largely satisfied with how her character’s story concluded at the end of the much-debated eighth season of Game of Thrones. Sansa Stark ended the series as Queen in the North, one of the few major characters to emerge with both power and public approval.

“I was very happy with the way Sansa ended her story,” Turner said, noting that many other characters met tragic or controversial fates, as quoted in a report by Collider. “I feel like I got a good one.”

This satisfaction, she explained, makes the idea of revisiting the role more complicated, as there is a risk of undermining a conclusion that already felt complete.

Script and storytelling key to any return

Despite her reservations, Turner did not fully close the door on a comeback. She acknowledged that the quality of the script and the purpose of a sequel would ultimately determine her decision.

“Maybe it would be an utter joy, or maybe it would be trying to cling on to something that was magic back in the day that can’t be recreated,” she said, adding that she would need to see a script before making any firm choice.

HBO has become increasingly cautious about greenlighting direct sequels, particularly after the Jon Snow spin-off starring Kit Harington was reportedly shelved during early development.

Expanding the Game of Thrones universe

HBO continues to invest heavily in the Game of Thrones universe. House of the Dragon has already completed two seasons, while A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is expected to debut soon, ensuring the franchise remains active through at least 2028.

While prequels remain the network’s primary focus, Martin’s recent remarks suggest that sequel ideas have not been entirely abandoned. However, no sequel series has been officially announced so far.

Turner’s increasingly busy schedule could also be a factor. The actor is set to headline Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming Tomb Raider adaptation as Lara Croft, a role expected to demand a long-term commitment.

A cautious but open stance

For now, Turner’s remarks reflect a careful balancing act between nostalgia and creative caution. While fans may welcome the idea of Sansa Stark’s return, the actor appears keen to protect the integrity of a character arc that ended on a high note.

Whether Westeros will see its Queen in the North again remains uncertain.
