Sophia Bush opens up about her secret 2025 wedding to Ashlyn Harris and the private celebration with their family

Sophia Bush and former professional soccer player Ashlyn Harris have disclosed that they quietly married more than a year ago, choosing to keep their wedding private before sharing the news publicly. The duo tied the knot in an intimate celebration in upstate New York in the summer of 2025, with Harris’ children, Sloane and Ocean, present.

The revelation arrived as Bush talked about her upcoming memoir, And I Will Tell You Mine: Notes from a Life in Progress, with Vogue. The book, which is set for release on Oct. 27, has an account of the couple’s wedding and Bush’s mirrors on their decision to keep the event personal.

A Private Wedding in Upstate New York

Rather than holding a huge public celebration, Bush and Harris chose for a small ceremony surrounded by family. Harris’ two children from her previous marriage to retired soccer player Ali Krieger attended the wedding, while Bush’s best friend, Nia Batts, officiated.


“The kids were just running and happy, and we picked flowers from the property and our daughter Sloane was holding them,” Bush stated. “It was so fun for them, because it wasn’t this pressure-filled day that’s too much for young kids.”

The couple also chose unconventional wedding outfits. Bush wore a black velvet dress with gold flecks, while Harris wore a tuxedo. Images published by Vogue featured the pair embracing outdoors after the ceremony.

Why They Kept the Marriage Private

Both Bush and Harris have spent much of their adult lives in the spotlight. Harris competed before large stadium audiences, while Bush became widely popular through her acting career.

“When you get to this stage in your life, you begin to unpack what’s yours and what’s always sort of been for everyone else,” Bush said to Vogue.

Instead of immediately announcing their marriage, the couple traveled to meet friends and relatives and shared the happy news with them personally. Once those talks had taken place, Bush said she felt ready to publicly refer to Harris as her wife.

“You’re not my partner, you know? You’re my wife. And it feels so amazing to say that,” Bush told Harris.

Bush’s Memoir Recalls the Wedding

An excerpt from Bush’s memoir offers additional details regarding the ceremony. In the passage, she explains exchanging vows and rings with Harris and mirrors on what the moment meant to her.

“We wept. We laughed. We exchanged rings. The invisible string pulled tighter around us. … This is the first chapter of my life that feels truly, wholly, divinely mine.”
