Sons of the Forest: Will it be on Xbox, PS4 or PS5? Here’s what we know

Sons of the Forest, a Computer game on Steam Early Access, pits you against malnutrition, illness, and mutant cannibals that really want to kill you. This may seem terrifying, but if the survival game The Forest is any indication, it may be something special. If you're using a console, what then?

Sons of the Forest is not, however, available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, or Xbox Series X | S, and the console release has not yet been announced by the game's creator, Endnight Games. Might they be developing the console port in secret? It's doable, but the fact that Sons of the Forest is an early-access game makes things more difficult.

Early access was available for the original The Forest, although that was anticipated. Less than two weeks before its planned release, Sons made their announcement. Endnight chose to launch the game on Steam Early Access rather than postpone it again.


Microsoft does have its Game Preview service, which enables the sale of originally incomplete titles like Grounded and Valheim. PlayStation doesn't actually offer a comparable program, though. Hence, even if a console early-access port existed, it would only be compatible with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S. Moreover, Endnight has made no mention of a console release yet.

Does that imply that it won't occur? After spending several years in Steam Early Access on the PC, The Forest did ultimately make it to the PlayStation 4. Around six months after The Forest exited Steam Early Access but not Xbox, it was released.

Therefore it's feasible that after the PC version exits early access, this new game will appear on consoles. Endnight claims that the Steam Early Access phase would run up to eight months, so if it does truly happen, there will be a bit of a wait. Also, we anticipate it will skip last-generation platforms and jump right to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S.

Sons of the Forest is not currently available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, or Xbox Series X | S, although it could be in the future.
