Songwriter Shirley Eikhard, who wrote 'Something to Talk About', dies at age 67

The legendary singer and songwriter Shirley Eikhard died at the age of 67. Shirley Eikhard was one of the most prolific songwriters in the industry. She penned the Grammy-winning single Something to Talk About.

Shirley Eikhard died on Thursday at the healthcare centre in Orangeville. According to her publicist, Eric Alper, she died cause of severe cancer-related complications. She took her last breaths at the Headwaters healthcare Centre in Ontario.

• During her musical journey, Shirley Eikhard released 18 albums between 1972 to 2021. She was a self-taught performer and taught herself to play instruments like drums, bass, guitar, piano and many others.


• Her song ‘It Takes Time’ was recorded when she was just 15 years old. In 1972, she released her debut album, which led the path to success.

• She was an equally talented songwriter as she was a singer. Shirley wrote Bonnie Raitt's Grammy-winning single.



• The same song became Bonnie Raitt's first single from her 1991 album. The song went on to say on the Billboards Hot 100 for 20 weeks and won Raitt the best pop vocal performance in the 1992 Grammy.

Her list of achievements doesn't end here. She also won the Juni Awards in 1973 and the best country female artist award in 1974.

After her demise, Bonnie Raitt went on Twitter to express her feelings. Bonnie said she'll forever be grateful for their connection and friendship.
