The solar eclipse taking place in the US on Monday, April 8, 2024, is especially significant for the people of the US because this rare cosmic phenomenon was visible here for the last time in 2017 and the next visible eclipse in the country will take place in 2044. Despite all the preparations, euphoria and hullaballoo surrounding the solar eclipse 2024, this astronomical event may come under clouds and people may get disappointed.

AccuWeather warns

It is a matter of concern because Accuweather has warned that many areas in the eclipse's path of totality are expected to come under clouds, making it difficult to watch this rare astronomical phenomenon. It has also warned that clouds may appear primarily in northwestern Pennsylvania, California and Arizona in the south of both states.

According to NBC, forecast projections also indicate those in the Chicago area will be able to see the partial eclipse with minimal cloud cover.

Predictions of National Weather Service

Besides, the National Weather Service has predicted that conditions may be cleared up for some parts of Illinois and Indiana, despite earlier potential threats for severe storms. But "uncertainty" over high clouds forming during the eclipse window persists.

Special glasses

Adler Planetarium has warned that viewing the solar eclipse without proper eyewear may result in irreversible eye damage within seconds. If directly exposed to the solar eclipse, the nerve endings may stop registering pain. Pupils will be more dilated as the eclipse occurs, allowing more harmful rays to enter the eyes.

Are schools closed?

'NBC Chicago' has reported that many schools across Illinois have announced plans to close for the upcoming total solar eclipse. The Illinois State Board of Education has said that more than 70 school districts in the state have listed a "not in attendance" day on April 8.
