Snapchat enthusiasts can now enjoy the taste of the app's web version for free. The famous American instant-messaging app was restricted to mobile platforms until July this year, then the company decided to launch the web version to paid subscribers. Now, Snapchat says, the web version will now be free for all users worldwide.

What is new in the Snapchat's web version?

The Snapchat+ desktop version of the social media app was initially launched in July to paid subscribers in the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Canada and New Zealand. But now, it's open to all users worldwide. And what's unique in the web version is the extra surface space a user gets while chatting, voice and video calling. It will also give access to features such as chat reactions and 10 Lenses for video calls.

Moreover, while using the Snapchat web, the Bit emoji of a user during the chat will appear holding a laptop, denoting that the user is accessing Snapchat via desktop. Besides, the desktop platform will offer a privacy screen, allowing the user to hide the Snapchat window if switching to another task. The web version will also not allow the user to take screenshots.

The conversation can also be synced across devices. According to Nathan Boyd, Snapchat's head of messaging products, the web version is an unmet opportunity for the tech company. Initially, the paid subscribers of the Snapchat web version had to give a few dollars every month and get access to exclusive features. And it was pretty successful as over a million users opted for Snapchat+ in the first six weeks. The web version can be accessed by simply logging onto www.web.snapchat.com and entering the credentials.

What are the additional features Snapchat is rolling out?

Apart from offering the web version to all the users worldwide, the company is also launching a new Chat Shortcut available at the topmost part of the chat tab, making it easier for the users to see missed calls, unread Snaps and chats, and reply to stories. The Shortcut features will remind users of their pending replies and inform them about their friends' upcoming birthdays.
