Steve Harwell, the former lead vocalist of Smash Mouth, has passed away at the age of 56. The band's representative confirmed this sad news. Harwell, who retired from Smash Mouth in 2021, died at his home in Boise, Idaho, on September 4, 2023, while under hospice care.

A statement from Smash Mouth's manager, Robert Hayes, conveyed, "Steve Harwell passed away this morning, September 4, 2023, at his home in Boise, Idaho. He was surrounded by family and friends and passed peacefully and comfortably."

Harwell, known for his charismatic presence, pursued pop stardom with limited musical experience and an unyielding determination. He faced health challenges, including cardiomyopathy, a heart muscle disease, and acute Wernicke Encephalopathy, affecting his speech and memory, ultimately leading to his retirement in October 2021.

Leading up to his passing, Harwell was receiving care at home from his fiancé and hospice professionals. TMZ had previously reported that he had reached the final stage of liver failure.

Smash Mouth, known for hits like "Walkin' on the Sun" and "All Star," achieved success in the late 1990s. In 2000, "All Star" was nominated for a Grammy Award.

While Smash Mouth released their last album, "Magic," in 2012, they also unveiled an acoustic version of their debut album, "Fush Yu Mang," in 2018. The band continued to tour with vocalist Zach Goode, who joined in 2022.
