Small Things Like These: Cillian Murphy-starrer Irish drama to stream at Lionsgate

Cilian Murphy is currently on a roll this year as his latest film directed by Tim Mielants is now at Lionsgate, after receiving critical acclaim at the world premiere during the 74th Berlin International Film Festival. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck's Artists Equity financed and produced the film based on the Claire Keegan novel of the same name. Currently, the film will be available in regions like North America, the UK and Ireland only.

One good make by Tim Mielants, this Irish drama was adapted from a novel of the same name by popular Irish writer Claire Keegan, who also contributed immensely towards the Oscar-nominated drama The Quiet Girl.

Small Things Like These: Plot

Enda Walsh was the one responsible for the screenplay for the film that was produced by Cilian Murphy and his Big Things Films colleague Alan Moloney. Meanwhile, it was financed and produced by Artists Equity, run by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.


In this historical drama, Murphy plays the part of Bill Furlong who is a coal merchant and a dedicated family man, who becomes aware of abuse happening at the local convent. These incidents remind and trigger him about his own childhood trauma and he thus makes a moral choice. The plot is based on the real story of Magdalene Laundries, which was run by the Catholic Church in Ireland for the empowerment of 'fallen women', says The Hollywood Reporter.
