Slow break-up? Harris does not want to associate with Joe Biden who has low approval rating before U.S elections

In a strategic move ahead of the U.S. elections, Vice President Kamala Harris is reportedly distancing herself from President Joe Biden’s campaign efforts, wary of associating with the outgoing president’s low approval rating of 39%, as per FiveThirtyEight’s average. Sources told Axios that Harris's team has been deferring Biden’s requests to join her on the campaign trail, signaling what some describe as a “slow-moving break-up.” The campaign prefers to focus on a "new way forward," hoping to appeal directly to voters without the baggage of Biden's controversial popularity.

The Biden team has been pushing for campaign involvement, citing Biden’s appeal among white working-class voters, particularly in Pennsylvania—a demographic that boosted his 2020 win. However, Harris’s team appears cautious, viewing Biden’s association as a potential liability in a race that’s closer than ever. Despite the White House denying any rift, Biden's solo campaign event in Pittsburgh caught some Harris staffers off guard.

Earlier, Biden’s unscripted comments in New Hampshire—suggesting that Trump “should be locked up,” clarified as “politically”—frustrated Harris’s team. The slip was seized upon by Republicans, who argued it underscored perceived prosecutorial bias.

While Biden's appearances have been planned for Maryland and Delaware Senate candidates, the White House insists these appearances do not replace the support he’s eager to offer Harris. With Election Day approaching, there are no joint events scheduled between Biden and Harris, underscoring the growing strategic divergence within the Democratic ticket.
