Sir Gavin Williamson has decided to walk out on his Cabinet Office job as the accusations against him have worsened. In his resignation letter, the senior Tory MP stated that allegations against him were causing a 'distraction'. He tendered his resignation letter to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who had surprisingly restored Sir Gavin Williamson to the Cabinet last month.

Since he has been restored, messages he sent to the former chief whip have surfaced and are being investigated. Sir Gavin allegedly disparaged the previous government led by Liz Truss and argued that he was blocked from attending the Queen's funeral. However, Wendy Morton, who was chief whip under ex-PM Liz Truss, has rubbished all the claims of Sir Gavin Williamson.

However, it is not the first time Sir Gavin Williamson has been caught up in eyebrow-raising moments. Many MPs have accused him of using intimidation while serving as a chief whip under the Theresa May administration.

He also hit the headlines for blaming Russia behind the Salisbury Novichok poisoning. Later, Williamson was fired by Mrs May for allegedly leaking secret information from the National Security Council.

Sir Gavin Williamson, a former fireplace salesman, was born in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, in 1976. He studied at the University of Bradford. Williamson lost the parliamentary elections in 2005 but was able to win the South Staffordshire seat during the 2010 general election. He was made a "Sir" in March 2022 by the then-PM Boris Johnson.
