The perfect celebration for single people who really detest Valentine's Day in all of its commercial splendour is Singles Awareness Day, which falls on February 15.

True love ultimately arrives when you're by yourself, as pop star Lizzo put it. Love yourself to celebrate Singles Awareness Day.

History of Single Awareness Day

Singles Awareness Day was born out of loneliness, as are all great initiatives. Around 2001, Dustin Barnes made the decision to organize a day when his friends could celebrate being single rather than wallow in misery.

This gang of high school lads not only decided to protest Valentine's Day on February 15, but they also found they could get chocolates and other products with a romantic theme for a steep discount.

After graduating from high school, Dustin continued the custom at Mississippi State University, where it flourished. In 2005, Singles Awareness Day received legal copyright protection, and it has since expanded. It's hardly surprising that this day became so well-known given that, according to census data, about 50% of Americans are single. College students started the day off by giving gifts, having parties, and going on buddy dates with their single pals.

Now, people of all ages commemorate the day to remember that relationships are not necessary to celebrate love. You are capable of loving your family, friends, and yourself. When love is all around you, there is no need to feel lonely on Valentine's Day. As more and more individuals embrace their singleness and practice self-love, the holiday keeps changing. The hashtag #SinglesAwarenessDay is being used in more than 55,000 posts on Instagram.

Dustin eventually discovered a singles church group, where he eventually met his wife. You could find your future spouse by commemorating Singles Awareness Day. You're never sure!

Single Awareness Day tradition

Singles Awareness Day is a time to celebrate the fun and independence of being single. Without a mate to return home to, single folks go out partying with their buddies. By giving oneself a gift or even purchasing a bouquet of flowers, one may express their love to the person who deserves it the most. Although many individuals just wear black as a protest against love, green is the day's dominant colour since it is the antithesis of red. There are many benefits to being single, but this day also serves as a means to let others know that you are available, which leads to many meet-ups at parties.
