Simone Biles led the US Women's team that won the Gymnastics World Championships for the seventh consecutive time. The US team of Simone Biles, Shilese Jones, Skye Blakely and Leanne Wong scored a total of 167.729 points to beat Brazil and France. They won by a margin of 2.199 points as the finals proved to be a close contest.


Simone Biles becomes most decorated gymnast


With this victory in the Belgian city of Antwerp, the US women's team broke a tie with the Chinese men for the longest streak of consecutive team titles. Besides, Simone Biles became the most decorated woman gymnast in history. Now Simone Biles has 33 medals, 26 from the world championship, including 20 gold medals and seven from the Olympics. She has one more medal than Larisa Latynina of the erstwhile Soviet Union.



US suffer setback


The US team got a huge setback at the beginning when Joscelyn Roberson was forced out of the event even before it started. She hurt an ankle while warming up at the vault. Roberson was helped off the mat and replaced with Wong.

US beat China


The US team garnered 42.966 points, they were second behind China after the first rotation as the Chinese gymnasts excelled on uneven bars. But Biles and her teammates performed superbly and earned more points on uneven bars than the Chinese girls and. They took the overall lead with a margin of 1.467 points. The American women increased the margin a bit further after the beam, when Biles made up for the modest 11.700, followed by Wong who scored 14.300.

Simone Biles completed the successful night in Antwerp with a spectacular floor routine rewarded with a 15.166. Her all-around total in the team final was 58.732, 1.633 points higher than the second-best performer.

Brazil finish second


Brazil came second with a total score of 165.530 points. Rebeca Andrade led the Brazilian team.

France finished third with a total score of 164.064. The team was led by Melanie De Jesus Dos Dantos.
