Shrek 5 delayed to 2027: Release date, cast, Zendaya role, trailer & all you need to know

Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation have delayed Shrek 5 to June 30, 2027 from its earlier December 23, 2026 date. This new date means the movie is coming six months later than planned and about one year after its first announced date of July 1, 2026.

The studios did not give any reason for this delay in their announcement. Because of the date change, an Untitled Illumination Event Film will now release on April 16, 2027, taking Shrek 5’s old June spot, as per the report by Variety.

Shrek 5 was first announced last year with a summer 2026 release plan, marking the first main Shrek movie since 2010’s Shrek Forever After. Apart from the Puss in Boots spinoffs, fans have not seen Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona in a main movie for 15 years.

The story details of Shrek 5 are still secret, but the film will bring back Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz to their famous roles. Earlier this year, it was announced that Zendaya will join the cast as Shrek and Fiona’s daughter, as mentioned in the report by IGN.

Zendaya is known for roles in Spider-Man and Dune movies. A 30-second trailer was released in March, showing a new animation style and giving a first look at Zendaya’s character.
