'Shooting star' asteroid enters Earth's atmosphere, ESA confirms. Watch video

European Space Agency (ESA) announced a one-meter-asteroid via Twitter on Monday morning.

A one-meter asteroid named Sar2667 that appeared as a "shooting star" entered the Earth's atmosphere, causing a bright light in the night sky. The event was captured by many and shared on Twitter before 3 am.

The European Space Agency announced on Twitter that the object had been detected and was projected to make a safe entry into Earth's atmosphere above northern France between 2:50-3:03 am GMT, or 3:50-4:03 am CET.

It wrote, "@esaoperations reported a 1 m meteoroid before it entered Earth's atmosphere over northern France early this morning: only the 7th time an #asteroidimpact has been predicted - but a sign of the rapid advances in global detection capabilities! #Fireball #Sar2667."

ESA noted that a-meter-long asteroid, dubbed as Sar2667 was detected by Krisztián Sárneczky, a native of Budapest, Hungary. It confirmed via a tweet.

Kade Flowers, a resident of Brighton, was able to record the asteroid with his camera, producing footage that displayed a glowing ball of light moving across the sky.

Informing about the discover, NASA tweeted: Don't forget to wear sunscreen. Some asteroids are aged early by the Sun, with surface rocks fracturing in just 10,000-100,000 years. Analysis of images from our OSIRISREx mission revealed a weathering process that happens fast, geologically speaking."

The Sun rises every 4.3 hours on Bennu. At the equator, daytime highs can reach almost about 127 Celsius, and nighttime lows plummet to nearly minus 23 Celsius. Rapid temperature changes on Bennu have created internal stress that fractures and breaks down rocks, similar to how a cold glass breaks under hot water.

Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and landslides too change the surface of Earth. However, significant changes are usually gradual with water and wind slowly breaking rock over million years.

This information will help scientists estimate how long it takes boulders on asteroids like Bennu to break down into smaller particles, which may either eject into space or stay on the asteroid's surface.

Flowers, who works as a clinical scientist for the National Health Service (NHS), said in an interview with the PA news agency, "I thought that this was the most amazing thing I have ever seen." "I was so lucky to have recorded it during clear skies," added Kade Flowers.

The prediction of this asteroid impact marked only the seventh time in history that an asteroid impact has been predicted prior to its occurrence. The European Space Agency (ESA) noted this as "a sign of the rapid advancements in global asteroid detection capabilities."
