‘The Sandman’ season 2 has become one of the earliest casualties of the Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strike. After the talks with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) collapsed Thursday and the actor’s body voted for the strike, the shooting of the famous and popular Netflix series came to a standstill.

The producers of the series earlier decided to film the season in two blocks- the first to be shot between July and October 2023. The second block was scheduled to be shot between January and April 2024. Earlier, the WGA was on strike, and it was clear that no writer will be able to take part in the shooting. The situation has been aggravated further with the SAG-AFTRA strike as now the actors too have joined the picketing.

Confirming that the filming has been stopped completely, Niel Gaiman has written on the social media platform BlueSky, “SAG-AFTRA strike is on. Sandman has stopped shooting completely, along with everything else that was squeaking by without writers. I hope that the AMPTP sees reason and gets back to the table with the actors and the writers. I have no reason at this point to think they will see reason.”

‘The Sandman’ season 2 is not the only series to be stopped due to the strike. Shooting of ‘Stranger Things’ and ‘Cobra Kai’ too has been halted. But the shooting of ‘House of the Dragons’ has continued due to the laws of the local unions.

Apprehending the strike, Christopher Nolan and Universal decided one day before to hold the London premiere of ‘Oppenheimer.’ Its cast members like Robert Downey Jr., Josh Hartnett, Kenneth Branagh, Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, and Florence Pugh appeared at the press meet and offered photo-ops.
