Shooting near the White House: Two National Guard Troops shot, suspect in custody as security forces respond; Helicopters, Secret Service and ATF on scene

Two members of the National Guard were shot Wednesday(November 26) near the White House in Washington, DC, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed. The shooting occurred in downtown Washington, according to sources familiar with the early reports and a law enforcement official. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear.

DC Metropolitan Police confirmed on X that the scene is secure and that one suspect is in custody. Authorities have advised the public to avoid the area while investigations continue.






Police tape sealed off the scene as emergency vehicles flashed lights and helicopters hovered overhead. Secret Service and ATF agents responded, while National Guard troops stood watch and at least one helicopter landed on the National Mall.

“The White House is aware and actively monitoring this tragic situation,” Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said. “The President has been briefed.” President Donald Trump, currently at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, for the Thanksgiving holiday, received updates on the incident.

“Please join me in praying for the two National Guardsmen who were just shot moments ago in Washington, DC,” Secretary Noem said in a statement, noting that her department is coordinating closely with local law enforcement to gather additional information.

Thousands of National Guard troops from multiple states have been stationed in Washington, DC, for months as part of President Trump’s anti-crime crackdown, which has expanded to other cities across the country.
