Shooting in Texas: Shooting at Austin Central Library leaves 1 injured, here’s what we know about the victim’s condition and the suspect as probe continues

A shooting incident unfolded in Austin, a city in Texas, on Saturday (October 25, 2025), where one person sustained injuries, Austin police said. The incident occurred at the Austin Central Library. The police also stated that a suspect was taken into custody. According to Fox 7 Austin, police said that they received a call just after noon to 710 West Cesar Chavez St., where the caller said they heard a gunshot. Officers located a victim inside the library, and they were rushed to a hospital.

Shortly after noon, Austin’s 911 system received reports of a shooting incident at the Austin Central Library, Assistant Police Chief Lee Rogers said in a media briefing. A suspect left the scene before the arrival of officers, but the person was later located and placed into custody in the city’s South Austin neighborhood about 1:25 p.m., police said.

Rogers said he had no more information on the suspect or where specifically in the library the shooting occurred. Police said the library was evacuated, and the shelter-in-place was lifted later. “This appears to be an isolated incident, not an active shooter situation,” Rogers said, as quoted by news agency AP. The officer further stated that the incident involved one suspect and one victim.


In an update about the victim of the shooting incident, police confirmed that injuries were serious but not life-threatening. A shelter-in-place alert was sent out by the city's notification system. The alert has, however, since been lifted. There is so far no information released about the suspect as the Austin Police continue to investigate the matter.
