As many as six people sustained injuries after they were shot along the West Indian American Day Parade route in Brooklyn on Monday evening (September 1, 2025). According to the New York Post, the shooting incident resulted in a bloody end to the annual celebration that saw thousands of revelers and candidates in the crowded mayoral race.

Five shell casings were recovered at the scene. The annual parade kicked off at 11 a.m. on Utica Avenue near Lincoln Terrace Park. According to the NY Post, the participants in the parade were traveling westward toward the Brooklyn Museum. The heightened NYPD security had initially kept the peace. The official route for the parade was approximately two miles.

Chaos was witnessed following the shooting incident despite the boosted presence of the NYPD police. In the evening, six people were hit by bullets in three incidents of shooting as the parade was drawing to a close. Police and New York Post sources claimed that a man in his 20s was shot in the leg and a woman in her 40s was grazed by a bullet when gunfire rang out along the parade route on Eastern Parkway at about 5:35 p.m., police and sources said.


NYPD stated that the duo was rushed to Kings County Hospital Center in stable condition. Police and sources further stated that at least two more people, including a 26-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man, were both shot on the Eastern Parkway at about 6:30 p.m., the New York Post reported. The man was shot once in the chest, and the woman was struck in the shoulder. About 2.5 miles away on Nostrand Avenue near Sterling Place, a 40-year-old woman and a 53-year-old man were shot at 6:15 p.m., NY Post sources said.
