The sharp turn sent passengers tumbling, with several thrown to the floor. "I wanna get off!" one frightened woman screamed, as another shouted, "Oh my God!" amidst the chaos, reported New York Post.
The sudden jolt jolted the driver awake, prompting her to scramble for control and bring the speeding train to a stop. She then stood up and tried to calm the panicked passengers, repeatedly urging them to 'relax'.
“I’m sorry,” the driver says. “Relax, relax, relax. We didn’t crash. Relax.”
According to the New York Post, an investigation into the frightening incident inside the Sunset Tunnel near Duboce Park on September 4 found no mechanical issues with the train or tracks, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) said Monday.
SFMTA Director of Transportation Julie Kirschbaum described the incident as completely unacceptable.
“We know this was a frightening experience for our riders, and we take that very seriously,” Kirschbaum said as quoted by New York Post.
“The agency is addressing the matter in accordance with internal protocols and the relevant contract, which included placing the operator on nondriving status.”
