A family doctor in Arkansas has been banned from practicing medicine for the next five years because of disturbing claims. A video from 2019 showed him walking around his clinic unclothed and doing things that were not appropriate. After a heated disciplinary hearing, the state medical board voted to take away his license until 2030.

What was in the video?

Dr. David Diffine, a family doctor in Blytheville, Arkansas, won't be able to practice medicine again until at least August 2030. This is because of a shocking video that came out in 2019. The video, which was shot in his Mississippi County clinic, showed him walking around with no clothes except for a ball cap and, at one point, engaging in explicit acts.

The Arkansas Medical Board watched the video at a recent hearing to decide what to do about it. Nick Shull, a witness for the Attorney General's office, said that the video also looked like it showed Dr. Diffine walking into the reception area, where three women who worked there and were also patients were. It was said that one of the women took part in the act, as quoted in a report by the Hindustan Times.

What went on at the hearing for punishment?

During the hearing, Deputy Attorney General Doralee Chandler asked Dr. Diffine directly about things he had said before, like that he wasn't naked in front of clients. When Chandler asked him if he had lied to investigators, he said, "I mean, yeah."

When asked, Diffine agreed that getting the patient's permission didn't make the behavior less serious. Chandler said he tried to downplay what happened, but he failed several polygraph tests and lied to the police many times.

Dr. Diffine said he was a nudist and that the meeting was okay with both sides. He called it "a very, very poor decision." He said what he did was wrong, but he said he wouldn't do it again, as per a report.

Why did the board decide to suspend him for so long?

The Arkansas Medical Board said that allowing Dr. Diffine to keep working would put patients in the future at risk. Chandler said he couldn't trust his promises to behave better in the future because he had a history of lying and not being able to take full responsibility.

In his last words to the board, Dr. Diffine said, "It matters to my family and friends because that's not who I am..." I made some bad choices, and I am fully responsible for them.

The board finally voted to take away his license until August 2030, which means he can't ask for it back until then. The state medical board's decision is one of the most serious disciplinary actions it's taken in a long time, which shows how bad the violations were.

This case shows how high the moral and professional standards are for doctors. When doctors act unprofessionally in clinical settings, it can hurt their careers in the long run as well as hurt patients' trust.
