Actor and author Sherri Shepherd has given more than seven years to ABC's show The View, which won the Daytime Emmy. Her dream of having her own show is now a reality, as she is making debut on Monday on many Fox stations. She mentioned that hosts like Oprah Winfrey, from whom she took 15 pages of advice, Ellen, Wendy, and Whoopi Goldberg have given her advice.

The Associated Press has taken her interview regarding the new chapter in her life and the advice she received.


She feels that doing a 90-minute show for a stand-up is easy for her. Her experiences of reading a prompter, interviewing the president and Congress people, and other celebrities have led to this point.

On doing her show

When asked how she would be making her mark after she had worked with Wendy Williams' staff member following her departure, Sherri said that Wendy had done an excellent job in such a hard gig. She hoped to show her respect by being unapologetically herself and forging her own path.

Sherri was asked about the talk shows that inspire her, and they are:

She thinks that Rolonda Watts did a fantastic job as a host. Furthermore, she reveals that when she saw Ellen's monologue, Sherri also felt an urge to do that.

On finding her path
She was asked how she would find her path given Ellen and Wendy's departure and a new show by Jennifer Hudson. Sherri said she and the other two black women on their talk show, Jennifer Hudson and Tamron Hall, can say different things. She said that she was excited for Jennifer as they're both from Chicago. She clarifies that there's no rivalry as they're different individuals.
