British actor Tilda Swinton’s directorial debut will be up for an award at the upcoming Sheffield Doc Festival. Its world premiere along with 48 other productions from 56 countries will be held at the UK Documentary Festival. This has been reported by ‘The Hollywood Reporter’. Further, the entire schedule of the upcoming festival, which will take place from June 12 to 17, has been revealed.

This directorial debut of Swinton along with filmmaker Bartek Dziadosz titled ‘The Hexagonal Hive and a Mouse in a Maze’ is a documentary of the two individuals, who travel the world and shoot scenes of the daily lives of people and their focus on education, even as they deeply introspect about the intricacies of life. Not much is known regarding this documentary ahead of its world premiere.

The Sheffield Doc Fest will also feature some standout music documentaries. This includes the world premiere of the English rock band Blur which has been titled ‘Blur: To the End’ and a European Premiere of ‘Mogwai: If the Stars had a Sound’.


The festival will have three competition sections: The International Competition, International First Feature Competition and International Short Film Competition.

Further, a total of 109 films (80 feature and 29 short films) drawn from over 2700 entries including 48 world premieres, 14 international premiers, 17 European premiers and 29 UK premiers from 59 countries will be screened for the audience in this festival.

It has been previously reported that Kevin Macdonald’s ‘Klitschko: More than a fight’ will be the opening world premiere of the festival. This is a story about the world boxing champion Vitali Klitschko and his brother Wladimir.

Some of the documentaries also include current global events. One such documentary is about a Palestinian activist and an Israeli journalist.

The theme for the 31st edition of the UK Documentary Festival is ‘Reflection on Realities’.
