Shazam: Fury of the Gods struggles in the Box Office after Weekend debut; Details here

Shazam, a sequel of Warner Bros. and DC Comics, was opened to North America at No.1 only to perform below expectations. The hopes reflected a collection of $35 million-$40 million after releasing in 4071 theatres but Shazam made it to only $30.5 million and it is upsetting because the cost of making it is $100 million and marketing is $100 million. Internationally, Shazam 2 was able to collect only $65.5 million.

The Shazam of 2019

The 2019’s Shazam opened with a huge $53.5 million and domestically it ended at the box office at $140 million while globally it was able to make it to $366 million. Shazam was the first comic book installment that cast Zachary Levi.
Sequel of Shazam did not just fail in the collection part, in fact, it has also joined the group of worst starts in the DC Cinematic Universe, accompanied by “Wonder Woman 1984 which was able to collect only $16.7 million on its release” and “The Suicide Squad” which started with $26 million. Both of them together opened at HBO Max.
Chief analyst at Box Office Pro, Shawn Robbins says “It’s a soft start, there’s no other way to put it.” He added, “Comic book films are steadily showing that without an event-level hook, it’s difficult to live up to predecessor performances.”

2) On Rotten Tomatoes, earned only 53% whereas the original one gained a huge average of 90%.

Shazam: Fury of the Gods is the first film released after the takeover of DC by James Gunn and Peter Safran and as the results say, the duo was not able to spread its magic on the latest sequel.
