Shark Week 2022! 'The Rock' Dwayne Johnson hosts iconic programme on Discovery Channel
The 34th annual 'Shark Week' has begun, the first after Discovery acquired Warner Media. This time, Dwayne Johnson will host the iconic week-long televised event.

This year's 'Shark Week' is the first since Discovery’s acquisition of Warner Media for a whopping $43 billion, one of the biggest deals in the info-media space ever. The show is slated to provide 25 hours of breathtaking content, with the Jumanji star at the helm, no less! Discovery intends to take the celebrated week-long event to the next level, with marketing bigger and bolder than ever.
What is Shark Week?
'Shark Week' is an annual television show that premiers on the Discovery Channel. As the name suggests, the week-long docufiction revolves around sharks. As per the tale, the show was born to eradicate the fear of sharks among those who had seen the Jaws movie franchise. Shark Week first aired in July 1988 and has been in continuous production ever since. This makes Shark Week the longest-running television programme in history, having been premiered in over 72 countries.

Shark Week is currently in its 34th year and will be Dwayne’s first stint at hosting the iconic show. For the 32nd and 33rd years, Shark Week was hosted by television presenter Josh Gates. In 2018, the show was hosted by NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, while actor Rob Riggle hosted Shark Week in 2019. The first person to host the show was ocean activist Peter Benchley, who hosted Shark Week in 1994.
