Shakira opens up about ‘rough year’ after split from Gerard Pique, says she channelled her feelings into latest hit song

Shakira has opened up about how she turned to write songs to channel her emotions following her split with long-time partner Gerard Piqué. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the musician discussed how writing helped her navigate a challenging year.

Despite the difficulties she faced, Shakira's latest single "Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53," a collaboration with Bizarrap, has become a symbol of empowerment for countless women. The lyrics seem to reference her breakup and its aftermath, as well as Gerard Piqué's current girlfriend, Clara Chia Marti.

During her conversation with Fallon, Shakira expressed her gratitude for the supportive community of women who have rallied around her since the release of the song. She also revealed that it was her 10-year-old son Milan who encouraged her to collaborate with Bizarrap on the project.
