Shadeed Abdulmateen, US citizen, sentenced to death by Chinese court for murder
Shadeed Abdulmateen, a US citizen, was sentenced to death by a Chinese court on Thursday for purportedly killing his lover. He arranged a post-breakup meet up with his girlfriend and stabbed her with a folding knife.

In 2019, Abdulmateen contacted the girl, who was only known by her surname, Chen, and had a relationship with her. However, Chen proceeded to end the relationship in June 2021. Not accepting the breakup, Abdulmateen planned a meeting to kill his girlfriend. As per the details, he scheduled a meeting with Chen at the Zhejiang province bus stop and stabbed her with a pocket knife.
A Chinese court declared it a heinous murder
The trial in this case began and was attended by more than 20 officials, including government officials and members of the public. Following a review of the facts and a series of incidents, the court ruled that this was a deliberate murder. The court came to the conclusion that this was a planned revenge killing that ended in Chen's death in tragic circumstances.
The criminal's act of purposefully and wrongfully depriving someone of life was considered to be a premeditated homicide by the court. His motive was heinous, the crime's goal was firm, the tactics were cruel, and the consequences were exceptionally severe.
The court claimed that it had granted Abdulmateen his rights to defense, including the availability of an interpreter and consular visits.
A spokesman for the US Embassy in Beijing stated that the embassy was mindful of a court decision regarding a US national in China and that authorities were "evaluating the matter" but refused to say anything, subject to privacy concerns.
