'Sexiest Man Alive' for 2023 goes to 57-year-old American actor who is a also a race car driver

Patrick Dempsey, renowned for his portrayal of neurosurgeon Derek Shepherd, famously known as 'McDreamy,' on the medical drama series "Grey's Anatomy," has been crowned People magazine's 'Sexiest Man Alive' for the year 2023. Dempsey, 57, takes over the mantle from last year's recipient, Chris Evans, the celebrated Marvel actor. This honor arrives more than three decades into Dempsey's illustrious Hollywood career.

Dempsey expressed his delight at receiving this prestigious recognition. He acknowledged that the timing of this accolade at this point of his life is particularly meaningful. The announcement of his selection as the 'Sexiest Man Alive' was unveiled during an episode of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" on Tuesday night.

Beyond his acting career, Dempsey is also a race car driver, adding a multifaceted dimension to his achievements. On the race track, Dempsey has competed in prestigious events such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Rolex 24 at Daytona, and Baja 1000 off-road race.


He has starred in many Hollywood movies including Can’t Buy Me Love, Sweet Home Alabama, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Bridget Jones’s Baby, and Enchanted.

For his role as neurosurgeon Derek Shepherd in Grey’s Anatomy, he was awarded Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series in 2006 and 2007 along with People’s Choice Awards for Best Male TV Star in 2007 and 2008.

Dempsey's passion for this project prompted him to reach out to Michael Mann, emphasizing the importance of taking initiative to pursue one's aspirations.

Patrick Dempsey's contributions extend beyond his entertainment career. He is the founder of the Dempsey Center, an cancer care and support organization based in Maine that provides support to cancer patients and their families. He established this center in memory of his mother, Amanda, in 2008.
