During a White House gathering, Nixon fervently expressed the abnormality and urgency surrounding the situation in Gaza, citing the distressing toll—approximately 14,300 Palestinian lives lost since a recent Hamas-initiated assault on Israel.
The hunger strike, which Nixon committed to for two days before her return to New York, aimed to vividly illustrate the hardships faced by Gazans. "We are here to hunger-strike, reflecting the deprivation in Gaza to Biden," Nixon conveyed to journalists, underscoring the critical need for swift action.
With personal ties to Jewish heritage and a family history shaped by Holocaust survivors, Nixon stressed the universal significance of 'Never again.' She decried the civilian casualties in Gaza, highlighting their staggering disproportionality compared to other conflicts.
Directly addressing President Biden, Nixon passionately urged him to empathize with Gaza's children and take immediate action. In a separate interview, Nixon criticized the sluggishness of Biden's response, questioning the rationale behind targeting civilian populations in response to terrorist threats.
Besides from Cynthia Nixon, there were five other politicians and a coalition of activists who were also a part of the demonstration. They aim to shine a spotlight at the US government's involvement in the funding policies that have impacted Gaza's access to basic necessities, like food and water.
