Severe thunderstorm watch issued for all of Connecticut; NWS warns of quarter-sized hail, 65 MPH winds
A severe thunderstorm watch was issued across Connecticut on Sunday afternoon, July 20 as a cold front moved into the region, prompting concerns over potentially hazardous weather conditions. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the watch, announced just after 4 p.m. EDT, remains in effect until 9 p.m. Sunday.

Forecasters warned the storms could bring frequent lightning, quarter-sized hail, and wind gusts reaching up to 65 mph.

Earlier in the day, the NWS noted the approaching cold front would serve as the trigger for developing showers and thunderstorms throughout the afternoon and evening.

"The front will be a mechanism to develop showers and thunderstorms later this afternoon into the evening," the weather service stated. "Continue to monitor the latest weather conditions and be prepared for the potential of rapidly changing weather conditions."
