The wildfire in California has prompted mandatory evacuations amid burning structures and injured people. Officials said that the wildfire spread to around 4,000 acres by Friday night. The news comes from Cal Fire, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

Emergency

Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency in the state and said that some houses had faced interrupted electricity and there have been civilian injuries. Over 9,000 Siskiyou County residents faced a power shortage on Friday Night. The blaze began to burn structures by night.

Courtney Kreider, Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office spokesperson, tweeted that the fire is increasing and is burning several homes. Robert Foxworthy, the spokesperson for Cal Fire, confirmed that structures had been burned to the ground.

Evacuation & Containment

Cal Fire reported that the firefighters worked into the night, but containment was not reported. Newsom said that the emergency would ensure enough resources available for firefighting. He claimed to have secured a grant related to fire from the Federal Emergency

Management Agency

Evacuations are underway in Edgewood, Lake Shastina, and Weed. More than 5,000 residents live in these areas. The California Department of Transportation announced the closing of Highway 97 amidst the fire. Officials used National Weather Service to spread the word about the mandatory evacuations.

According to forest officials, the McKinney Fire burned through 60,138 acres and was the largest in the state for the year. It was expected to be contained by Oct. 1.

The temperature in Weed in the afternoon was 91 degrees and had low humidity.
