Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) goalkeeper Sergio Rico has been released from the hospital after weeks of treatment and recovery. He met with a severe accident when he was on a pilgrimage near Sevilla. The mule-cart accident pushed him into a coma and he was on a bed in the intensive care unit of a hospital for weeks.

Coming out of the Sevillian hospital Virgen del Rocío on Friday, the PSG star goalkeeper appeared happy, he thanked his fans, well-wishers, hospital staff, and all those who had sympathized with him during the period of crisis.

He told journalists that he would take a rest and be at home for a few more months. He said, “I wanted to thank the football world that has sent me messages of support. Everyone who has stopped for a minute to give me support. I thank them. Also, of course, to the Hospital Virgen del Rocio, who are professionals of the highest order.”

Thanking his teammates, the star goalkeeper said, “The first day I arrived here (at the hospital) the Biris (Sevilla fans) came to see me. I am grateful for that.”

When Sergio Rico suffered the injury and was admitted to a hospital, PSG were to play against Clermont Foot in Liga 1 game 2022-23. The Spaniard joined Paris Saint Germain in 2020.

Expressing his feeling over the accident, PSG manager Christophe Galtier said that the players were devastated as they were hoping to lift the trophy when the shock came. He also said that “all the players were together to send the positive vibes and Sergio, his mother, his wife, and all those close to him.”
