The State of Minnesota under Senator Mark Koran has brought in much-needed legislation to prevent any malpractices in the electoral process of the state and also help the veterans of the state to flourish and live in state-sponsored homes.

Methods adopted to increase transparency

To achieve 3 major objectives:

  1. Increase Voter transparency
  2. Make tax-money accountable
  3. Allow fair participation in the electoral process
Senator Koran was able to bring two changes in this legislation, which include, discontinuing ballot returnees from taking the ballots to the ballot drop box, and clearly marking absentee ballot boxes so that they are recognised easily.

6 million dollars have been provided for hiring temporary staff directly for voter registrations by the state of Minnesota. Similarly, the Minnesota IT Services have also been provided 4 million dollars for the first year and thereon 1 million dollars every year for the maintenance of absentee ballot records and live streaming of the election process.

Outside influence has been curtailed by blocking private access to government election processes. This is primarily to prevent various legal groups to interfere in the election process for vested interests. Private entities also have been kept at bay by disallowing them from paying for any election-related expenses to various government entities.

Finally, organisations that receive grants from Minnesota have been asked to maintain quality financial recordings. This has been done to provide security to the taxpayer’s money.

This legislation in electoral practices includes the following:

  • In-absentee voting participation by voters: in reference to the place for absentee voting.
  • Mailing modifications for voting registration: providing multiple statements of transparency to the voter, like sample ballot and absentee ballot application.
  • Managing voter data: making public registration details of voters, except for birthdays, and all details which are classified as private data.
  • Changes in absentee ballot envelope: take into consideration any technical changes required in the safe delivery of ballots during elections.

Support for Minnesota’s Veterans

In 2021 veteran homes in certain places in Minnesota were given the necessary approvals for construction and modifications.
