In a statement released on Thursday evening, CAIR disclosed that anonymous callers had threatened the Marriott Crystal Gateway hotel. These threats included mentions of planting bombs in the hotel's parking garage, targeting specific hotel staff in their homes, and the potential for an attack similar to the January 6th incident at the U.S. Capitol.
As a response to these serious security concerns, CAIR made the decision to relocate the Saturday banquet to an undisclosed and secured location.
Up to the time of reporting, there has been no immediate response from the hotel in relation to the situation.
On a broader scale, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland revealed that the Justice Department is closely monitoring an increase in reported threats against Jewish, Muslim, and Arab communities in the United States. These threats are seen as being connected to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Taking a strong stance, President Joe Biden addressed the nation from the Oval Office on Thursday night, calling on Americans to denounce both Islamophobia and antisemitism. He delivered a unifying message, saying, "You're all America."
In the face of these security concerns and threats, CAIR's decision to move its annual banquet underscores the need to address and tackle such issues, while emphasizing unity and inclusivity within the nation.
